San Bruno explosion and fire damage insurance claims will be impacted by an important decision this week, by the CA Public Utilities Commission.
Facing intense pressure from neighborhood, community and state leaders, the California Public Utilities Commission ordered convening of an independent investigative panel to review all aspects of the explosion and resulting fire that killed seven and injured nearly 50 others. Over 35 buildings were destroyed in the fire.
The CPUC ordered that the panel will be funded by PG&E. Further, PG&E was ordered to make all employees available to be interviewed for the investigation and to preserve all records related to the safety of the gas line.
Two months will be required just to form the panel.
Such intense emphasis is placed on this panel because of concern that other pipelines in the state may also be dangerous. All safety & testing & record-keeping processes will be reviewed to determine just what happened, how it was caused and how it could have been prevented. The results of the panel will impact the final insurance claims and ultimate financial settlements.
In the meantime, Priority Adjusters and many other Public Adjuster firms are working overtime to help San Bruno residents get initial claims processed in order to get lives “back to normal” as soon as possible. Says John Morgenstern, President of Priority Adjusters, “While we are interested in the investigation and, of course will be interested in the findings, we are focused now on helping the people of San Bruno get fair settlements fast so that they can begin to rebuild right away.” “That’s our focus now.
